Podiatry deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Podiatrists are able to diagnose and treat many complications of these medical conditions, including skin and nail disorders, corns, calluses, warts and ingrown toenails, as well as managing neurological and circulatory diseases.
“Chiropody” or “a chiropodist” is the old term given to this scope of podiatry.
Foot injuries, disorders of bone and joints, arthritis, soft-tissue and muscular pathologies and complications gained through sport or other activities are also diagnosed and treated by podiatrists.
